Hello guys, I have a quick question about a small creature I just noticed in my LR tonight, It has what looks like 2 small filter apendages, and maybe a hermit like little claw. I has no visible shell and is in a rock. it puts out the 2 little filter things then retracts them to a mouth I assume, it is on a peice of rock that is in a weird location so I easilly missed it and can't really photograph it. any help would be nice. thanks

it is not very large, larger then most pods, prob about the size of an average blue-leg.

Well, since it sounds like a filter feeder, I would not worry about it hurting anything.

I have no idea what it could be though, there are so many mysteries that show up in our tanks!

yeah I am not really worried, one question though, do any pistol shrimp have filtering apendages like this? I think I have a pistol by the sound it makes.

I've had these before, some in porites and some in a maze brain. They are a type of barancle or filtering shrimp. Perfectly acceptable. Based on the claw comment, I would dare say itss a shrimp.

cool thanks, I am almost 100% sure its not a barnicle, but a shrimp of some type, it had what looked like eyes.

It could be a more unusual sessile hermit crab often associated with corals... check out this link to see...
