First of all, some info.

The thing is mustard yellow, immobile, "hairy" is a good way to describe it, about half as thick as a pencil, and about 3 inches long. It sticks in the water, swaying with the currents. It grows fairly fast(~inch a month), and does not move at all. Any ideas waht it is?
