Today I noticed that the back glass of my aquarium was covered with super small little white bugs. The largest were maybe the size of a grain of salt but most were nothing but little specks. I took a picture but they don't show up at all. I am talking really really small, barely visible even.

Some of them walk but most jump to move. Very strange since they are on a vertical surface.

I am guessing they came with the 50 lbs of fiji liverock I just got on monday. Any ideas what they are?

I just noticed the same thing on my 4 week old nano reef. I was wondering what they are too. I have 6 pounds of live fiji rock and 20 pounds of Aragonite Plus Live sand. I also have tons of pink algea growing everywhere. Cool stuff to see happen.

Without more of a description, I would suggest that these are copepods or amphipods. There are many different kinds...someone who is able to ID them more specifically will probably chime in.

These are copepods that you are describing, found in nature from these tiny specs to large 1cm buggers in oligotrophic waters. Its a good sign of a healthy tank and are common in newly started tanks (many fish gobble them up as a food source, as will corals).

I guess they aren't affected by ammonia cause I am curing my LR now and the test kit said it was 6ppm, not .6, but 6. They seem to be multiplying all the time so no biggy. I also have a bunch of small feather dusters and (unfortunatly) a few aptasia doing fine too. I think the worst of the curing is over cause the ammonia last week was 7ppm!

Thanks for the identification tooa
