hey guys, a few weeks or so back, i posted a question regarding this mysterious creature in my tank. at the time, it was about the size of a pea, maybe larger.

anyway, it has grown to about the size of a walnut (no kidding) and to the best of my abilities, the only way to describe it is that it looks like a round yellow (very porous) sponge. it's not sessile though, it grazes on the algae and moves about the tank, very much like a snail.

i am truly sorry for not posting a pic but i do not have a digital camera. i checked out the pics in the hitchhiker guide and thought it might be a limpet, but it really looks more like a sponge.

any ideas? any sources that might have more pictures so i can find it? thanks, guys.

By your description this sounds very much like something that came on a toadstool I bought.Mine was about the size yours is now,brown/yellow in appearance, however after appearing to be stuck stationary for a few days in my tank it started to send out longish tentacles that attached further on and then once attached began the slow move accross and so on and so on.Now I cant remember where I found and exact picture and discription but mine is definately some sort of mobile sponge! I think it may have been one of those indepth series of books you can buy, hope this rings some bells but you didnt mention tentacles but maybe you got some now?

thanks for the reply, tinker! it's nice to hear that someone else might actually have a mobile sponge, too.

i haven't noticed any tentacles on mine though. although it did have 2 antennae when it was real little... this is so odd. maybe i could do a search on sponges and find him. hmmm...
