New Reefer
Please help if you can. We very recently, 5 days ago to be precise, set up our new marine tank. We bought what we were told was dead rock and coral. But within 24 hours our coral sprung into life and these soft tenticle looking things popped out everywhere...then a further day later it started getting covered in this white tissue looking stuff. Well at first we thought it may he some sort of healing tissue..but it appears to be killing the soft tenticle bits.

If anyone could please tell me what type of coral it is and what the white stuff is I would be most appreciative.

Looks like a Euphyllia, possible diversa. (I don't think it's ancora). Pic's a bit out of focus. The white tissue you describe sounds like an infection that eventually killed mine. Try an iodine dip as soon as possible. (5 - 10 drops of Lugol's solution per liter of saltwater, dip for 30 seconds)

Good luck,
Mitch
