Odd Ball

Experienced Reefer
Hi. Good afternoon.

I have a rather quick question regarding a algae that I have had in my tank for some time now. It has been in there for about a year and a half. Since the initial cycle.

I've had other algae for instance that was around but left over time. Sargassum comes to mind. However, this one stays...

My fear is that nothing I've done will get rid of yet nor eat it. So - I'm doing something wrong and my guess is it relates to excess nutrients. And I must say I'm clueless.

I'll include 2 images - but I must warn you I have not resized them. They are not too large, but my web server is not the fastest. So - if you don't mind, have a look. The first pic is a piece I removed and placed on a piece of paper. The second image is rather crummy - but it shows it on the rock.

I was told that it could be wafer algae - or Lobophora(?). Does anyone know what could eat it?
I have a very healthy Kole Tang and he does not touch it. No snails that I have either.

Tank is 100 gallons. It has a 20 gallon sump. I've recently replaced my skimmer with a Lifereef - it's doing wonders

Also within the last 3 months started to use Ri/Ro water for topoff. Lights are 2x175W 10K MH's with 2x110W Super Actinics VHO's. Both powered by Icecap.

I'm thinking it could also be related to water flow maybe? I have a 3/4 SS mounted in the center - return pump is a Sen 700. I also have 2 power heads in the tank - but not sure if it is enough. For Corals I have a rather Large Frogspawn that is close to the top near the SS. I don't want to blow it all over the place. An Elagance is on the bottom resting on the sand - doing well - but again, worried about direct current.

Anyway - thanks again. Have a good day.

Lobophora. It's fine. Keep an eye on your nutrient levels, keep detritus levels in check and let it be. If it starts bothering corals, harvest it. I don't know of any animals that eat it, offhand.
