Hi
A friend on another board is trying to find out what he's got. Kind of cute little green thing.. here is a picture of it:

Any idea of what it can be? Here is a copy paste of what he says:

About the green thing, the slight lighter border around it, are the tentacles. The tentacles are kind of round shape and lighter color.

Tks, any inputs would be appreciated.

Looks like it's a single polyp of either Zoanthus or Protopalythoa, both colonial softies, and the latter posing quite some potential danger to the unwary reefer: the mucus contains palytoxin a rather potent neurotoxin, and must not be allowed to contact any aprt of the body, especially mucus membranes.

Sure wish the pic was in focus

Outch Tks a lot Horge! I will let him know right away..
As for the focus, he tried different shots but he says it is so deep in the tank that was the best he could do..
If it is the second one, should he try to remove it before it spreads? Or just being carefull not to touch it is enough? Is it dangerous for the lives in the aquarium, like fishes or inverts?

Presuming it really IS (Proto)palythoa...

I personally would leave it, but ALWAYS keep from touching it. Actually, there have been stories of reefers who will position a purchased colony, and feel nothing, until they touch their lips or their eyelids. Then bammo. Numb city.

Always wash hands thoroughly after sticking them in the tank. As for the fish --they probably know better than us landlubbers how to deal with such nasties
