I found a shrimp, clear, black bands on tail, one large claw, one small claw. Approximately 1/2 inch long. It was hitchhiking on a piece of LR with green mushrooms. Any Ideas?
The one large claw and one small claw would suggest a pistol shrimp. Do you hear snapping sounds coming from your aquarium?
Pistol shrimp are basically harmless and I wouldn't worry about it too much. Of course, without a picture a positive ID is next to impossible.
If you know where he's hiding, take a pair of tweezers/tongs, etc. and place them close to his burrow. He will most likely come forward & "snap" his large claw to make a warning sound. They are basically harmless, but kinda fun, too. I have one in each of my tanks.
