I just switched from my 250w 10k DE AB's to the 14k Phoenix bulbs (same bulbs as the more expensive Aquaconnect) I am extremely impressed so far. The bulb is blue/white like a 14k should look and appears to be as bright as the 10ks!!! It doesn't have a 20k look like the 14k Hamilton. I would post pics but my camera isn't good enough to capture the color.
If you're getting new bulbs check out the phoenix. Premium Aquatics has them in stock.

I'm buring the 150w DE over my tank. I really like it. I'm actually deciding whether to use blue or blue and white led's for my dusk/dawn effect so I don't mess up the color.

I got mine from reefgeek.com

BC, correct.. Those light really looked nice.. Bright and not yellow like the others 10k bring out. The coloring is also pretty nice without actinic. I feel like switching to some 14k Phoenix too.. But what I'm gonna do with my 10k XM :( ..

BC, how long you had the 14K blub anyway?

The 14k bulb is really nice. I had the 14k AC's, and as Rich stated, they have a nice color and are pretty intense. I just switched to radiums, but i will highly recommend that lamp.

Michael, the Phoenix and Aquaconnects are the same bulb (different label). The 14k hamiltions are more blue and less intense than the AC's or Phoenix bulbs, I tried both.

Rich

So the Phoenix bulbs are more whiter than the Hamiltons so they look brighter in the tank?

When I was running the Ishio the lights where more brighter than the Hamiltons but very yellow.

Outside of looks the real question is how will the coral act with the different bulbs. When I was running the Ishio my corals where open much more with fully polyp extenion where with the Hamilton the corals are open but not as they where under the Ishio/

I don't know about that, I have 2 hamilton 14K's running and 1 aquaconnect in the middle. to me the AC is bluer but brighter if that makes any sense. all my corals fluores much more under the ac's and I get much better growth and color under the ac. but the hamilton is 1/2 the cost.

if you have the money I would definately go with the AC, if money is a little tight you get very good bang for your buck out of the Hamilton.

BC,

Yea I know, I don't why the phoenix bulbs are so cheap and AC's are $115. Its ridiculous.
ususally the DE bulbs are more money, but I guess there must have been allot of R&D that went into the SE bulb so they need to recoup the funds.
