Curious about people's experience with Mangroves...

Wish I can tell you, purchased 4 mangrove seedlings from Julian Sprung at RAP 2 years ago.
Still waiting for it to take root and sprout.

I have a similar experience. I got one from Algae Barn and it never sprouted. Had it in my sump for over 6 months and nothing.

It’s a cool decoration. I don’t think 1 stem is going to do anything.
As far as keeping them, give them enough light and room and they'll try to take over. :/ I wouldn't know how much they're actually sequestering. How would I isolate what a mangrove is doing from what biofilms, sponges, corals and fish are sequestering? And how would I figure out what the partially decomposed leaves I find drifting around have added back to the system?
I believe the concept of mangrove filtration for a reef tank is highly overrated. FWIW, I recollect that Julian wrote a Part 1 article in FAMA many years back, and that he never wrote (or published) the Part 2 on the results of his experimentation with mangrove pods and nitrate & phosphate reduction. That alone convinced me not waste my time with that methodology.

Never had any luck with mangroves. They never grew, just rotted away

Key to them is light. Start them in fresh water it takes about a year you see the roots grow. Once it takes that you can add to saltwater.
