hey guys startin up a new tank for my guys that are in my 29 gallon right now.

how does this sound.

75 - 90 gallon reef ready
dual drains (how much flow is that)

20 gallon sump ( 3 baffles diy ) maybe 5 if im going to be doing a refugium.

mag drive 12 or 18 (if anyone no's of a cheaper better submersible pump let me no)

titanium 300 watt heater

skimmer - asm g2 or remora urchin

3 powerheads.

closed loop will be done later on. thinking of doing a manifold type return.

I want to do barebottom but i cant see a saltwater tank not having sand.

southdown sand(if i can find it) i will be throwing in a little bit of sand from my 29 gallon very little just the top layer and about 20lbs of bio live sand.

50lbs of live rock to start off. all from my 29 gallon.

lighting - (6-8" from top of the water, 250 watt metal halide 14000 with 2 40 watt actnic/daylight flour. 48 inch fixtures.

Im going to be diy the stand and the canopy. alot cheaper and alot easier cause my dad is a carpenter. so i can do things the way i want.

guys once again any suggestions would be great. i will be upgrading the powerheads to bigger once i get the money. and the closed loop will be a def. for the future.

thanks in advance guys.

about the BB
when i posted about myself going BB, Jim sugested getting the rite sized marina booard and just sticking(i forget how) i very thin layer of sand onto it,
so you get the benifits of BB and the natural sand look.
consider it.

Upgrades!!! You just have to love 'em.

Everything sounds like its pretty good.

For the skimmer if you could put the $30 extra and get the G3 for the tank and you'll be more than happy. Get it from www.asmskimmer.com if you do go with it.

BB would be nice for the tank from the start, because if you change your mind later it'll be worse. All the headache of taking down and putting the tank back up sucks(couldn't think of a better word to describe the feeling).

Your going to be lighting the tank with 2 x 250 14k's right? Not just one.

Instead of the powerheads go with some seios, maybe 2 1500's plus what ever you have on your return.

If your getting the tank from reef guy I think those drain can handle atleast 1500gph if not more. I think they're 2inch drains on either end.

Sound like your on your way.

Since you're setting up the new tank, why not have it drilled for a closed loop now? Other than that your selections look good, except you'll need 2 halides or you'll end up with a dark part of the tank. If you put the light on one side, the other end would be dark. If you put it in the middle, both ends would be dark.

One overflow is enough.
Tee off the return, use tunze or those rio things. No need for a closed loop.
I like Quiet one pumps better then mags.
Re think the remora.
ReefLux 12K with actinics look nice if you want blue. ReefLux 10K with actinics are nice. JMO.

Overflow

Tony,

I agree that two overflows will probably be enough. But if you do go with 2 overflows you probably won't absolutely need the closed loop. Esp if you are not going bb.
