What’s up MR? I had a little 40g reef almost a decade ago, but money was tight and life was crazy back then so it didn’t last too long. I’m a little older, wiser, and wealthier nowadays so I wanted to give it’s another go. Here’s a basic rundown of the system:
Aqueon 120g (48x24x24”)
Modular Marine 1600gph overflow
Single 3/4” LocLine return kit
40g breeder sump w/Modular Marine baffles
Eheim CompactON 5000 return
Reef Octopus Regal 150sss skimmer
Dimmable 8x54w ATI fixture w/ Reef Brite
The tank went live on December 1, 2019. I threw in a piece of raw shrimp and have been dosing Microbacter7 daily hoping to speed up the cycle. Here goes nothing ...
Week 0: 12/1/2019
The more I looked at it, the more I wasn’t happy with the two-Island look. Before things got too far along, I decided to rescape.
12/8/2019
I’m 99% content with this. The end game here is an SPS heavy tank filled with wrasses and a tang or two. In the meantime, we’re doing a whole lot of waiting for the nitrogen cycle to run it’s course.
