300 Gallon upgrade

Well, I wasn't sure if I should start a build thread as this is going to be a slow process and I have been pretty busy lately. I'm upgrading from a Oceanic 215 gallon tank. You can find the build thread here, http://www.manhattanreefs.com/forum/tank-threads/64853-my-215-upgrade.html. When I purchased the 300 gallon tank, I gave no thought on the floor support. After talking with a few people, it was determined that it would be best to add more support to the floor. Some people said the floors were fine the way it was, but I wanted to sleep well at night and added support to the floors. I would like to Thank Paul (redfishbluefish), John (steamman) and Mike (from RC) for there advice/opinion on how to support the floor. These pics are a couple weeks old.

I added a 3 1/2 x 9 1/2 LVL Beam next to the steel I beam.

Here is where I'm at with the stand. I have no idea how I'm going to finish it. I would love to be able to remove the front panel in one piece, but 8 foot is pretty long. I can do 4 feet but than there will be a line in the middle. I just might go this route. I wll have the panels held with magnets.

I was going to use multiple holding tanks to hold the water and rocks from my 215, but I found a 300 gallon stock tank on craigslist. I aslo built a so-call canopy to hold the led's over the stock tank. I will be using the same L brackets on the canopy to hold the led's. I will be spray painting them to prevent rust.

Short stand, everything plumbed to the basement, and a huge tub as a sump! This is already starting to look like a successful system. Keep up the good work and don't forget to add more pics. :cheers:

Tub is just a holding tank. After the upgrade, I will get rid of it.

Finally was able to transfer everything to the 300 stock tank in the basement. Man what a job.

The one thing I was dreading about the transfer is removing the war coral that had grown on the bottom glass of the tank.

In this pic, you can see it growing up the front glass.

Here is what it looks like after removing it.

Rocks and corals in the tub. As you can see, corals don't look good at all.

Now for the big mess

Here you can see the 1.5 pvc pipe that I used to recirculate the water from the sump to the tub.

I created splash sheilds for the leds.

My dehumidifier has been on all day and it still can't keep the humidity down. This is going to be a problem.

I inadvertanly ended up being one of the helping hands that brought his new 300 into the living room. Tank looks great but damn that thing is heavy. I will move a 125 anyday but a 300 once every 20 years. Next time I offer up my pick up I am asking for weight estimates lol.

Your setup is def heavy duty, no spilled water change on your hardwood floors.

Hope the final steps of the setup continue to go well.

[FONT=&quot]I decided to build the panels on the stand. The front panel is 8 feet long. I thought it was going to be a hassle to take it off, but its pretty easy. I don't see myself removing the front panel once all the plumbing is connected. The one panel I will be removing the most is the right side panel. That is where I will have my controllers. [/FONT]
