If I had a system that was cycled with live rock only and even after the cycle I allowed it to mature without adding any fish or corals for say 4 months. Maybe I could seed it with amphipods, copepods and live sand with lots of beneficial worms and just let it sit. Also I would have a refugium...

Its funny because that is the exact article that inspired the questions.
The only problem is that it never touched on those questions. I read somewhere else that certain corals are unable to thrive if the flow is too intense.

If so what are some pros and cons?
If for instance I wanted to get some corals that required moderate flow would a gyre tank create too much flow and be bad for the coral.
