  1. drip rate for kalk

True. No argument here. A read of the warning label would be wise when dealing with any chemical.
  2. drip rate for kalk

I find my experience with the slurry method a lot more safer than Guy's experience. I was actually convinced to try it by Anthony Calfo who has been using this method for years. As for avoiding raising the ph too much? I dose it when my ph is lowest. With proper dosing a raise of 0.2 is...
  3. drip rate for kalk

I made up a drip system that used a float to match the evaporation rate. It worked well and required only occasional cleaning (pinching up the hose to loosen solids) to prevent clogging. The only problem I found with it is that whenever the evaporation rate was low, it could not keep up with the...
  4. CLEAN YOUR U-TUBE

In my case, coralline was the problem.
  5. Kalkwasser?

If you have access to a conductivity meter, the conductivity of saturated limewater (kalk) is about 10.3 mS/cm. Oh, and in case you haven't got it, no air. :)
  6. Mantis Shrimp & Thomas the Octopus Have Been Co-Existing

That is really cool. I have always wanted to keep one, but I would get attached and the life span is really short. It would so cool if they lived much longer.
  7. Mantis Shrimp & Thomas the Octopus Have Been Co-Existing

Thomas must be well fed or that is a crafty little mantis. Then again, he did evade your keen eyes all this time as well. You go, mantis. (you need to name him)
  8. WEAR GLOVES!

It's a bit hard for me to get the powderless latex gloves, but I have been assured by both Anthony and Eric that they do no harm. I just rubberband them at the wrist, give them a quick rinse and get to work.
  9. Which salinity reading would you trust more

Not really. Even if the tank is grounded (as is the case of mine and other's I have been in discussion with) this problem occures.
  10. Which salinity reading would you trust more

This brings up a point I forgot to mention. When testing your water sample, remove it from the tank (put in a glass, etc.) as electrical interference from lights, pumps and yes, chillers could interfere with the readings. In my case, my lights does, but that is easily neutralized by checking in...
  11. Which salinity reading would you trust more

I have seen quite a few articles that states conductivity to be the most presise way to measure salinty and the Pinpoints have a good reputation. I have been using one for some time and finds it works well. Here is an article done by Randy Holmes-Farley on Conductivity. "Using Conductivity To...
  12. do you mount frags on its side or pointing out?

I was just about to say that this is one of the reasons Eric Borneman told me that makes it a plus as well. He said that you tend to see quicker growth and more branching this way.
  13. Free Shark

  14. MH or T5?

Having finally seen T5's, I can tell you that even with the great reflectors they come with, they are no brighter than PC's (which I presently use). Hands down, for intensity, MH is the way to go.
  15. how to kill a mushroom

    Give them away.
  16. RO/DI recs

I have the Typhoon III and it works great.
  17. Are there test kits for the colorblind

Salifert may be easy for you, but I can't see the changes at all. The only one I have a little chance with is the alk. I am able to see a change in 'shade' some of the times.
  18. Are there test kits for the colorblind

Yep, I go through the same thing. I basically gave up trying to do it myself as I couldn't trust my 'guess', so I ask fellow a fellow reefer friend to do it for me. I didn't hesitate in getting a Pinpoint Calcium monitor as a result. (1 down, many more to go electronic)
  19. Purple Tangs in Jamaica

They are correct. What you are seeing is the various colour variation of one of our local tang/surgeon fish (Acanthurus coeruleus).
