Phylogeny vs. Taxonomical systematics

I'm working on my class project and am having difficulty drawing a clear line between phylogeny and taxonomical systematics. In my research so far, it seems that these terms are used almost interchangeably.

I'm figuring that "taxonomical systematics" would include specific morphological characteristics (ie. colony form, shape, columella type, corallite size, wall structure, lobes etc...) that help identify members of the species.

Phylogeny would be the family tree (so to speak).

Am I headed in the right direction?
