Ph Buffer

I noticed that my ph was a little low so i added buffer to my tank and as soon as i placed the disolved in teh tank i noticed my monti cap start to emit a white slime....Has anyone heard of this before or seen it...any help greatly appreciated

Did you add the buffer to an area with high water flow? It seems the montipora coral received a "direct hit" of water with high pH.

Also, next time...try dissolving the pH buffer in RO water before adding to the system.

also try dosing it over night if you have a aquadose. Thats a safe way of slowly moving the pH up and not instantly. Your corals will love you

Just make sure you calcium is in check too.

I agree! Saltwater is buffered already to the correct pH. There is no need to change it if Alk. levels are in check.

You may be low in Mg, if that is too low then your tank would then be unbuffered. Adding Mg would be more helpful than pH buffer. But in general with frequent water changes there should be no problems with pH and Mg.
