I didn't know where to find this info, it sounds crazy but I swear it is true. In July of this year I set up a 55 gal. freshwater aquarium. I set it up with basic tropical environment fish. Yesterday I was looking in it and noticed some strange little creature. It is from what I can determine, a cleaner shrimp, like Jacques in Finding Nemo. Where would this have come from? It is like it appeared from nowhere. Any help would be appreciated.

:welcome:

There was probably some larvae of a freshwater shrimp that got imported into your tank, either with your fish additions or decorations (particularly any live plants). I really can't say for sure since I don't know the history of your tank, but that is the most likely scenario. For sure, you don't have a tropical saltwater cleaner shrimp as they would not survive the osmotic shock of freshwater.

Thank you so much. Clare-the petshrimp link helped me identify the critter as a freshwater glass shrimp. I had never heard of such before! I was really curious as to how a shrimp was living in the freshwater environment. Now I know. (Don't you just love getting to help all of us amateurs who don't know tit from tat.) Thanks so much guys!!!

Glad I could help! I know of those sites from looking for seahorse food. :)
