When Is Photo of the week selected?

Is there a specific date a new pic is selected (Not that i don't love the current pic, its awesome just cuurious)? and is there an amount of days the winner should expect to stay on there? I'm sure a lot of people are curious.

I'm Curious also...I would even like to see more than 1 pic per day...maybe a running montage...I mean, even Rocky had a montage!

It would also be nice for mods, or whomever selects pitures pick out a few pics that makes the cut from thread and have users select what they like best in a weekly poll or something.

Good point Jiggy I've always wonder who picks the pics?? Shouldn't it be more like an overall vote???

The picture of the week has nothing to do with what pictures were posted during a particular week - it is simply 'run' for a week on the home page.

It is not a contest, though it's fine to brag about it if you happen to post a pic somewhere on MR and you are lucky enough to have it chosen
So nope, no voting is necessary either!

They are chosen to 'mix it up' between fish and corals and I personally think the person doing it does a really great job (no, it is not me..lol)

When the site runs multiple pictures (like around swap time) that is done for a purpose, and at other times pics are chosen because 'we' (an a site) are competing for a website award of some type.

I find my phone loads w a y slower when multiple pics are running (not an I-Phone and nobody really cares if my phone runs slower but me..lol)
