Need to improve in the focus part(assuming cannot adjust lighting)-objects move faster than the auto focus and the auto exposure can adjust.

anyway, it's cute to see both a juv and an adult in at the same time and they present so much difference in the pattern.

great lookin angel. the goldflakes n powder blue mouth r stunning. very tempting, 2 bad they r bad nippers.

taking pics of fast movin objects will require increase in shutter speed. try adjusting the aperture to get in focus.
i think the shutter speed u used on that pic is 1/125, with a d90 nikon, u can go as high as 1/4000

WHAT !, no cute little story, to go with pics?:splitspin

Some say a picture is worth a thousand words.

Others don't believe it and have to add their 2 cents wether it makes sense or not :tired:

I will check what shutter speed it's running-it's supposed to be auto-everything(except flash) but may be I forgot to reset. Will try semi auto modes tomorrow. However, I have a gut feeling it's the focal depth that I should first fool around to handle this situation because I think the auto exposure will make the ISO to 1600 and then open up the aperture and allow the shutter to be really fast. But when the fish move from front to back or from back to the front, the auto-everything(except flash) need time to reconfigure.

Note: I am intentionally prohibit the flash.

Dude u got tons of light in your tank! not to be rude or anything u really need to seriously go read the manual over n over again about shutter, aperture and ISO or hang out on the Nikon forums. there's no assuming, guessing or feeling to get a nice sharp pix.

Reading, learning, and testing, I must. However, there is no need to rush. I know I won't be,nor do I need to be, anywhere near your skills for years to come.

I got only 72W LED in a tank of 89G. I guess that's not a lot of light by any standard. BTW, how many watts of MH and T5 is in your tank? I kind of remember your tank is ~90G.

But this story cannot become my Wingo Collection of Bed Time Reef Stories for the Kids in print nor will it ever got sold to Disney, nor Dreamworks.:shhh:

my point is you have a powerful cam it can do much better even in low light condition IF u know your cam well. again you need to understand the basic Shutter, aperture and ISO. ellebelle posted some great stickys on the photography forum.

btw you claim your 72w LED= what watt MH again?
I've a 75g with 2 250MH and 2 T5 actinics.

72W LED at 20,000K is like 250W MH at 20,000K
My custom 20,000K LEDs are the ones I prized the most.

However, at lower K like 3,500K(that's the LED in this tank), the MH is more efficient relatively so it is around 175MH at this color temperature.

Thanks for the heads up. I know the basic relations of the 3 parameters and their general purposes. But, I need more practice. Give me some time, I will improve the skill. Note that I am not trying to make a money shot here. I just snap some pics for the hack of it so I can see how well this camera does in the auto, auto with options, and eventually the manual portion of it. My theory is that, most of the time, I will be using the camera to take enjoying moments where I am actually enjoying the time there rather than spending time thinking what settings to use ruining my time there. Even though this is a pro camera but I am not taking pics to make a living or intend to win an photo award. I have cameramen doing that for me. So, I think eventually I will be using mostly at "auto with options/semi-auto/scene" mode. The similar "auto with options/semi-auto/scene" mode in the lower end point-n-shoot camera cannot come close to it as the sensor is so much smaller, the focal length is limited and the computer is much slower. Of course, there is no disadvantage of learning more but if that means out of the pace I can handle is stressful.

Chief,
The point of this thread is not about my skill in photography(so I really don't have to know too much about photgraphy) but more about the interesting situation where one got to see both a juv. gold flake and an adult gold flake angel at the same time in the same tank. Many readers responded to the cuteness of the fish and the difference of the two instead of paying attention to my skill. Release the stress and enjoy the tranquility of simple live. Sometimes, watching an apple fall is quite interesting, at least to me. Who got famous for watching the apple fall?:tongue1:

Let's not spoil the fun of enjoying the fish(tale) by going too technical here. We can talk in person when we had all our cameras together in next meet.
