By the way, Macro lenses don't have zoom capabilities. You won't be getting macro shots of something deep in your tank in true macro without going a zoom lense and paying alot more. So if you want to take pics of one polyp on your acro thats 12" or deeper in the tank your not gonna be that happy. Just something to think about.

are you using the macro setting or the auto setting. Also do you know how to turn off flash in macro. Mine comes on automaticly. I can't take any actinic shots.

When you are on automatic settings (On the XSI of every thing from the green box down) you really have no control on the flash firing off.

I also have an XSI and still learning to use it properly. Your best bet is just to take a lot of shots on various settings eventually everything will just click together.

I got these links from Moidol from an earlier post I made . . I have looked through them but have not tried them out yet.

I have a XTi w/18-55IS Lens which is pretty much the same except for the megapixels ... I find that its actually easier to use any function above the green box. You can have total control over the picture. The "P" mode for example allows you to control the Av+/- which is important for picture taking in actinics. It allows you to adjust how dark/light you want the picture. My main point is that there is no such thing as "recommended setting" since you'll be changing the settings based on the need and senarios ... I hope this helps.

This lens is not truly a macro but a telephoto lens. With that focus range a true macro would cost a small fortune. All macro lenses are prime lenses and for photographing aquariums you want to look at 60 to 150mm range with the latest being usually the most expensive.
