they are actually fighting so i dont think its an awww

They lock up for hours sometimes.Most cichlids do that.Never fatal though.

they were definitely fighting ,they were like that for around 30 min
that pic was taken a few years ago i still have them in the tank together
they never did it again

Well I guess one of them lost the battle for the territory and that is why they never fought again.

Having owned African Cichlids I can tell you there is little love in that tank.

Consider locking jaws as arm wrestling-not real fight. Usually, once they determine who is stronger, they follow the rule. They kill each other by biting each other in a chase until one is too stress out. The most aggressive fight I have seen is to suffocate the other one by kind of like swallowing the opponent (not like locking jaws-one lip on each side.)
