noticed something strange on my purple nana just now. on closer inspection, it was an aiptasia that detached itself, ballooned up its stalk, floated over and landed here. It was clinging to the nana with its tentacles.

I hate those aptasias. They are on my "kill immediately" list. Along with bristle worms, fireworms, sand stars, rats, roaches, mosquitos, and flies.

Syringe, plain old household white vinegar, and poof no more aiptasia.:lol2:

I have to agree with Scumonkey that one really does look like a bloated tick.

T - that is an incredible shot!!! I wonder whether it drifted there by accident or whether there is any way whatsoever (and i doubt this, but I'm just thinking...) whether it "wanted" to go there...

I don't think that aptasia are self-propelling at all - i know i see tiny ones from time to time just drifting in the current...

still, i am sure he had the "will" to attach to your nana!

I think it just decided that it wanted to move from wherever it was and floated around on the current until it snagged something. I totally thought it was some kind of new "SPS tick" when I first saw it!

Did you remove it?

Lately I added Peppermint Shrimp to eat aiptasia, and to my disgust I've seen a few aiptasia eating those very shrimp! That's just wrong. ;)
