Hey thanks for the compliment. Let me know if you have any questions. I love to encourage others in this great hobby. I've been at it for about 10 years and believe me, if anyone can learn from my mistakes and little discoveries, I'm happy to pass them along

The Elephant snail- Scutus antipodes looks more like a Chiton than a limpet. (Really, it looks like a chiton without multiple plating- just a fascinating animal). Goes to show you how diverse the limpet family is. Really cool looking creature. Does is stay in one spot for a long time like most limpets, or is it a pretty active mover? (Or at least active considering it is a gastropod).

Do you know where I could get one?

He kinda disappears for a couple of days then he shows up somewhere else. I only see him in the open after the all the lighting shuts down. I don't know where you could get one, he was a hitch hiker on some new rock I bought.

Thanks for the reply. Super cool, I love all those snail like creatures, and this one is definitely show quality. Definitely the best looking limpet I have ever seen. But being a keyhole limpet, is it a predator?

My research has told me that they are mainly herbivores. I've seen no damage at all. The guy I got the rock from has had these in his tanks for years. He said the reason I didn't see him before was he was probably the size of a pea and buried in the rock. He also told me these critters grow quick. I've only found this one. I hope he continues to behave.

Probably would because they are built differently than a regular keyhole limpet which faces up all the time. Kind of built to get food that isnt attached to rocks, but yours appears to face down, so it probably is built differently for the algae. I am going to look for one myself.
