I bought a D40 today and was reading some reviews about both of these cameras..
Just wondering which 1 is better the D40 or the rebel d350

cons:a bout d40 is that its 6.1 mp and when the camera cannot focus on something it does not take a picture at all...
but I heard that the rebel has its minuses also...

which xt would you compare it to? the 6 or 8 mp? theres the xti which has 10.1mp. i have that one. if you decide to switch, there are great kits on ebay for every price depending on what lenses you want included etc.

I read somewhere the d40 does not take all autofocus lenses well. Only a select few. Haven't heard anything that bad about the 350 and they say the xti is a monster but I am still researching before I buy.

To me the rebel feels like a point and shoot cam. Who cares about the resolution. That's not to say it's not a great cam, but it's just not my taste. I will only support the more pro versions of canon.

A large part of the image quality comes from the glass in front, Period!

Take a 5,000 camera, put a shitty lens in front and you will end up with a shitty image, it's that simple. It takes two to tangle!

D40 will only take AF-S/AF-I Nikkor lenses, older ones without autofocus motors will not work on this body. Not going to be a big issue because I don't think people in the market for a D40 have lots of old Nikkors, unless they found a camera bag full of Nikon equipment.

I agree with Pedro I bought a Xti and used the regular lens that comes with it and I am not happy at all with the outcome of the pics. I just bought a nice macro lens and as you can see in my thread I am pretty much satisified so it takes 2 to tango.
