This particular shot was taken with a Fuji S1 dSLR. Since blennies sit rather still for extended periods of time, I had the opportunity to open up the aperature and slow the shutter speed a bit to get a saturated, contrasty photo (also explains why some of the highlights are a bit blown). Admittedly, a good deal of unsharp masking was done in PS to bring out some detail. Original image was decently sharp, but nothing close to this reduced, USM'ed version I posted.
Yep, the guy is completely reef safe. I don't know of anyone who's had a problem with this species (Altrosalaris fuscus ... spelling?) and this guy has been a model citizen. Nice personality too
I used to have one of these guys. Great little fish. I was running a 110 tall at the time that had a homebrew glass overflow with no teeth or strainer, though, and he kept swan-diving off the edge and into the overflow. Grrr. After the 3rd trip down to the sump I think the stress just got too much for him, the little thrill seeker. Don't have that tank anymore, so would love to find another of these guys, but the LFS never gets them.
