Hi Folks,

We are happy to kick off the first of our bi-weekly contests.

Your assignment for this first contest is LPS Corals We hope that this topic will be a good launch for the contest since a lot of reefkeepers have or can find LPS corals to photograph.

This assignment ends on 12:00 AM EST Monday (sunday/monday midnight), April 20, 2003.

Please refer to the Contest Rules for more information about how to enter. Each member may submit up to 2 entries per contest.

Please submit your entry in this thread only. Photos not submitted to this thread will not be considered for the photo contest. Photos that have no relevance to this contest will be removed. General comments or posts without a photo attached will also be deleted from this thread. If you'd like to discuss the contest, please start another thread.

As stated in our contest rules, the winning submission will be proudly displayed on our homepage for two weeks. Winners for this assignment will also receive a 15% discount on your next order over $100, courtesy of Reefs.org's sponsor, Marine Depot.

Good luck everyone, and have fun!

Sincerely,
The reefs.org staff

Note: Just in case you're unsure an LPS coral (long-polyped stony) includes corals such as brains (open and closed), bubbles, torch, frogspawn, elegance, plate, galaxea, candy cane, flowerpot, meat, tongue...you get the idea) ;)

Also, remember that each person can submit up to TWO (2) pictures per contest

That is by far the prettiest frogspawn I have ever seen in my life. Is the bi-color species rare? If not where can they be found? :P

PLEASE NOTE: Rules prohibit this type of comment in the photo contest entry thread . If you wish to ask a question, please place the question in the forum under its own thread. Thanks.

I thought these were supposed to be Large Polyp Stony corals?

The last two were a soft coral, dendronepthea, and an anemone.

OPS, need to delete?

Yes, Doc, they are. But folks'll soon get the hang of it. The photos are gorgeous, please resubmit them when we have the appropriate contest.

These photos are definitely absolutely gorgeous. Alas, they don't fit the assignment of LPS (large polyp stony) corals.

In light of the fact that this is the first contest and there's bound to be a "learning curve," I'm going to keep these images posted just for viewing pleasure. However, they will not qualify to win the contest since they are not related to the topic assigned. Note: You may resubmit them when the proper assignment comes around (and yes, soft corals and anemones are on that list :P )

Keep them coming guys :) You have 2 whole weeks to snap those pics. And remember, everyone is entitled up to two submissions per contest, so don't be shy 8)

Comments (optional): I just took this picture. I wish I had time to look through my hardrive for some better shots. Maybe nextime.

Opps! I cannot attach a file in this forum. Is this correct that only folks with pics on the web elsewhere can submit? Attaching photo is not ok?

If you like, louey, I have an ftp I can u/l your pic onto, (it'll be best if you just give it to me properly sized, though) and then I can link you specifically to your pic--not my ftp. I keep lots of stuff in there and more than one person has attempted to have their fun with me by "helping themselves". Just lemme know, though, as I've got both bandwidth and plenty of space.

Sorry 'bout that Louey. I had the permissions for this forum mixed up. I've corrected the error.
