Reefs.org's Monthly Photo Contests!

Reefs.org is proud to announce our montly photo contests! Winning submissions will be prominently displayed on Reefs.org's homepage, as well as a prizes for the winners (prizes TBA at the start of each contest).

Specific photography assignments will be designated for each contest. Each photo contest will run for exactly 3 weeks (starting from the 1st of the month). After the end of the submission period, a panel of judges will choose the top five photographs submitted. These five images will then be posted in a poll for you, our members, to decide which is your favorite photos.

Here are the guidelines for contest entries:

1. Please include the following information with your submission:
Name (member and/or real name):
Photo Title:
Photography equipment:
Location/Tank:
Comments (optional):
URL (optional link to your personal gallery):

2. Post your entries only in the current "Monthly Photo Contest" thread. This thread is only to be used for posting of photos and accompanying info. Other comments/replies will be moved/deleted. Photos posted in other threads will not be considered as submissions.

3. Members may submit up to but no more then two entries per contest. Non-winning images may be resubmitted for future contests (if applicable to the contest assignment). Winning photos are ineligible for resubmissions.

4. You must be the photographer and copyright holder of any photos you submit. However, the photographic subject(s) do not have to be of your own aquarium; photos of other personal aquariums, public aquariums, etc are permitted. Underwater photography is also acceptable

5. Photo entries may be submitted as attachments or as a displayed image via outside links. Reefs.org strongly recommends attaching files so as to assure their continual existance in contest threads. The maximum horizontal and vertical dimension of your entry must be 640 pixels or less with a maximum file size of 256kb. You retain all copyrights to any entries submitted to Reefs.org, but you grant Reefs.org the right to reproduce these entries within Reefs.org’s domain. Reefs.org will never seek financial gain from our members’ works.

6. While post process work is acceptable, Reefs.org reminds users that this is a photography forum and should not be regarded as an art or computer graphics contest. All entries must be actual, original photographs taken by the submitter.

7. Matting, framing, or any other artificial borders are not permitted. Watermarks and signatures are allowed, although Reefs.org reminds photographers that such elements – if too large or prevalent – can be a distraction to a photo’s composition.

8. Judges and members will give due consideration for all entries in respects to adherence to the bi-weekly photo assignment, composition, exposure, content, artistic appeal, and other technical and aesthetic qualities. Winners will be notified by email.

9. Reefs.org staff reserves the right to resolve disputes and disqualify entries as they see fit.

10. All entries must adhere to the Terms of Service for this forum.

11. Prize winners may be responsible for all shipping charges, taxes, import tariffs, or other incurred fees according to their location and/or local laws.

12. All federal, state, provincial and local laws apply.

A couple of adendums to the rules:
1) Reefs.org reserves the right to substitute prizes for international winners of Reefs.org's Bi-weekly Photo Contest if the application and/or delivery of the announced prize can not be reasonably accomodated.
2) Space permitting, winners of the photo contest will have their signatures automatically updated to include the following banner:

This banner is not mandatory; Members may remove this banner at any time at their own discretion by editing their profile.

3) In the event of a tie, the forum moderators will select the winner from the top choices.
