I had the good opportunity to take some photos of my friend's tank (Hyolee on reefs.org).

Did you use a flash on this one? If so, was it camera-mounted or off to one side?

The last shot was taken without flash. The metering was a bit tricked and hence it blew out some of the whiter areas. The first shot (clown) was shot with an external flash (Nikon SB-50DX) with a difusser box attached.

I'll upload 3 more tonight ... i think i have half a dozen more for this thread :P

Some more

Awesome as usual Len. You're brilliant at controlling DOF, especially in that middle shot of the last you posted. The first one...with the clown & anemone off to the right? I think if that one were mine I would have either cropped a bit more off the left or framed a bit more of the anemone on the right. I like the composition of having the subject off to the side like that, but on that one I'm left wanting more on the right (did that last bit make sense??? hehehe).

Cheers,
John

These were taken with a Nikon D1x with a 60mm macro lens. I'm not being modest in saying the camera system makes me a better photog then I am.

Are you making your pics available for download in wallpaper format? I remember you said they were, but I can't find them. Could you point out to where they are? Also, can you make them available in a 1280x854 format for Macintosh users? Isn't it easier to compose pictures in a wider format anyways? Excellent tank btw.

I've been using "clowns2.jpg" as my desktop wallpaper since I saw the thread... My wife is a little ticked off though, I used it to replace the picture of my 1 month old daughter..

Len,

If you don't mind me asking, what diffuser box are you using?
I've been think of adding one to my arsenal...

Nice shots, BTW. Some of the nicer digi shots I've seen...
Sometimes wish I could afford a digi-SLR body...

Hey Mike,

Sorry I missed your question earlier. I'm using a Stofen box (I think www.stofen.com). It's a rip off, but what camera gear isn't ;)

Omni-Bounce or the two-way?

I've thought about getting one of these:
http://www.lumiquest.com/lq873.htm
or
http://www.lumiquest.com/lq925.htm

Any experience or thoughts?

There are times where the direct flash effect is great, and other times where softer light would be better. Either one of these seems like they might fit the ticket.
I'd rather hear from someone actually using them before I plop down my cash.

Regards.
