Looks great until you hit it by accident and the thing goes off. Most people are gonna keep them under the cabinet near the outlets I assume. Which are gonna get hit by something. my $.02

This should be sold in conjunction with a certain lighting fixture companies products as a mandatory add on.

I doubt these are "reef safe", and my guess is that if they go off accidentally near your setup you'll be starting a new tank.

A GFCI is a good way to prevent a fire, and while it won't do anything if one starts, it won't accidentally destroy your tank.

For those interested in them, is there a fail safe on them to prevent accidental discharge?

Nice video.
Did anyone else notice the plant it was protecting. I agree with beerfish that GFCI's are a better way to go that and providing adequate clearance for heat sources to vent safely

If the fire spreads you could lose everything. I know it isn't a popular opinion but I would rather lose my tank then my entire home.

Accidental discharge is bad and I would be extremely fished off.

Or just set up your tank properly in the first place.

Sometimes malfunctions and accidents happen, proper setup is a good way to prevent fires but sometimes when dealing with electricity things happen.

I like the idea of the SCFSS, it is a little much for an aquarium stand. Still I nice idea for the keepers who run the drains and returns thru the floor to a big sump room in the basement.
I myself, run GFCI outlets with Fire shield power strips for my outlets.

Yeah they cost a little more then the ones you can get at home depot or just about any place really. But I like the idea of added security with my all my wires and cords running throughout the stands and sumps.
Not being feasible to install a haylon systems thru my fish room I guess I have to make due with what available for my budget.

They work as do fire sprinklers, the part holding the extinguishing media melts at 150 degrees and thus the discharge. If you took a hammer to it I guess it could accidently discharge.

Most sprinkler systems have additional check mechanisms which prevent accidental failure. What is the media used in these and how would it hold up against temp flux over a long period of time? A MH ballast can get pretty hot and if the contraction and expansion of the material used in these can weaken, it could be an accident waiting to happen.

For the record, I agree with the "better to lose my tank than my house" mentality, and I'm not trying to say that these don't work. I'm just playing devil's advocate.

It is the same as an ansel system. It's dry Chem powder which is found in all ABC fire extinguishers. It is extremely effective in putting out fires before they become very large problems. It will kill your tank if it gets in there but it is not a problem if it puts out a small fire and saves your life. These types of things are used all over the place and false discharges are very very very uncommon.

Could you elaborate on what SCFSS is? Apologize in advance. Not familiar with this acronym
