Calling all riders!

Finally got around to getting my class M permit and taking my course at trama school very soon

Need some advice on a first bike. I know there's an argument between 250cc or 600cc. Maybe a ninja 250 or a 650r, or even a yzf-6. I want my first bike to be forgiving for dropping cuz I know it'll happen. Not looking to be nuts with these vehicles either as I'm aware of the risk they have. Anyone have any words of wisdom before I venture off into bike shopping?

My first bike was a 750 and I was wishing I got bigger but Im over 6" 200 lbs.
My friend learned to ride on a POS Blast and then bought a Harley 1200 Sportster.

I would go with the larger bike you feel comfortable on, 600 at least. Trama is a great program but I think they need to change the name.

My advise would be to get whichever bike you can sit on and remain flatfooted on the ground. One that is comfortable for YOU. With that said I personally would recomend a 600 over a 250 for the simple fact that you will most likely be testing many boundaries of that 250 in no time. In addition, many 250's becouse of the lower power are fitted with enry level features. Regarding the motor; It is not a matter of going fast but having power on demand in 3 and 4th gear when you need it. I can go on and on but if you purchase any of the 600's of today you will not be disapointed. Please sit on and dont listen to a salesperson that tells you you can lower the ride height of the bike to accomodate you. You can but it affects the way the bike was designed to perform. Unless you are considering drag racing. And if you are I will send you to my dear freind Ricky Gadson to learn how to really control your throttle.

start off with.....

a 600. That is what most riders do and it is a great track bike to start off with. Just whatever you do, RIDE SAFE and don't be a hero.

I would get an r6 or cbr 600 as they are both light bikes and handle very well.I have a cbr 1000rr and a R1 and they both handle great.

If you're thinking more cruising than sport riding I have a friend who is selling a harley sportster for 4000 he's the first owner and never beat on the bike otherwise closetfishgeek covered most of it

really need to say how big you are.

Buy a used bike, make sure you put sliders on it right away.

I like the gsxr, but any of the 600's would be a good starter. I just feel like the gsxr you dont have to upgrade as soon.

my first bike is still the bike i have today. a 2002 yamaha yzf600r.not the R6. i love this bike. around my area, 600cc is ALL you need. i personally have a bad back, and the 600r is not a full on race bike. you can recline your back much more, and is a comfortible ride. no pain at all. and for my first bike, 600cc was perfect. its quick, you could easily kill yourself on it, but if you drive correctly for the first month, its a nice, easy, steady ride. i love my 600c.

Harley 883 is a nice bike for the price (used value is very LOW)

Dude 650r all day man , your first bike should not be a r1 or r6 or a front heavy gsxr !!! Damn I'm surprised nobody has told you to get a hayabusa for gods sake , your first bike should be one that your willing to drop and that you can easily control not a race inspired race bike , so go basic before you go fast.

By the way they have nice videos on u tube on all the above mentioned bikes and u will see what I mean.

First bike i rode was a 1992 Ninja 600 with no 2nd gear, then CBR 600, then ducati 748, MV Agusta Brutale, MV Agusta F1 1,000 which was WAYYY to much bike for a 160Lb 22 year old kid. I could barely touch 1st gear without the wheel coming up. I have since hung up my pads. Being its your first bike i wouldn't get anything over a 600. I took the Tramas class also almost 10 years ago it was pretty good and taught some decent control.

Word of advice... California Superbike school. Took that class in the poconos and that actually shows you how to control the bike properly at high speeds, not 10MPH on a 30 year old 250.
