I am looking at either of these for my wife for Mother's day. I like the nook because it is color and is/will be running Android's Froyo, so I am pretty sure it is hackable. My Cousin likes her Kindle because she has a way to get hacked books. I assume the Nook has some hacking sites too.

Anyone have experience with either of these?

Don't know about the whole hacking thing, I'm not into that, but nook is 10x better. My girls mom has both, and she hates the kindle now that she has a color nook. She also likes it because she can go on her face book and other sites all with the nook.

As far as I know there's no root method for Nook Color 1.2.0 (Froyo) that was just released. Picture above is NCs running 1.1.0 (Eclair).

Nice. I figured Froyo is not rootable yet since it was just released, but with the developers available I assume it's only a matter of weeks/less. My wife and I both have Evo's that are rooted. I am usually on ppc Geeks and xda.

Can you PM me a few sites that you use? Do you use it as a tablet or do you use it as a reader?

XDA is all you really need. Autonooter 3.0 will do everything for you (1.1 Eclair), no need for ADB commands. I also run Dalingrin's kernel to overclock to 1 - 1.1ghz.

Actually I don't own a NC. Ones in pictures were all for friends... I was educated on their dime :shhh:

I liked the kindle better. I know from my exp web browsing on the kindle is painfully slow, not even something I would use as a decision criteria, but I never tried it on the new nook. Also on the nook is the whole screen color or just the lower window? The deciding factor for me was the page redraw; the kindle handles it better in my opinion, I hated the way the nook changed pages.

definitely depends on what you want to do with it. I got my wife the kindle, and if you just want to read books (and get a ton of free ones easily if you look around), it's hard to beat the $130 for the kindle. But if you want to more than read or play basic games, you'll need the nook.

If you are a NYC resident, the choice is clear - the Nook. Reason: the formats that the NYPL has (EPUB, PDF) are only readable on the Nook (or the Sony). Why buy what you can get for free?

I didn't think of that. Thanks BYF. We are not nyc residents, but u will check if our local library allows borrowing. Ntw, on our way home from that heartbreaker of a yankee game. Nova should have gotten that win.
