You ever stop and think about the crazy things in life?

Like how the world functions, origin of life, coincidences, etc.

I'm in my thinking mood again my mind is just getting blown.

-If I never stopped hating the guy who turned out to be my friend who also happened to have a fish tank. I would have never guessed that his little tank would cause me to end up into freshwater tanks and ultimately reef. What if he didn't get a fish tank? What would I be doing right now?

-What if I never made a Staten Island group buy? Would I still know the people on Staten Island today? Would I even be attending swaps and such or would I be lurking?

-How can someone make technology out of the things on Earth? Like I understand metals and materials from the Earth, but how is it given instructions and turn it into something useful?? How do you get a piece of metal and make it work for you? Maybe its just me but just thinking about technology gets me going.

-Airplanes. I will never understand how you can get tons of metal in the air to fly.

-One thing that I just recently read and thought of are homeless people. They would have never guessed in their lives that one day they would be homeless. Even as children they expected bright futures like we all do.

-I took a driver's ed class and we were told that if the people getting into an accident had one more second to think, the accident could have been avoided. Just one second.

-When I drive, I'll admit I am an aggressive driver. I'll get annoyed at the slow person cautiously driving in front of me. But this guy in front of me could be saving me from an accident by preventing me from driving really fast.

-Why are our bodies perfect? Why is it so complex? What connects our thoughts to our minds? Because if you think about it, our brains are physical and supposedly "store" memory. But memories and thoughts aren't something material. It's not like putting something into a box and holding it there.

-In the end we will all die. For example, Bill Gates reaped wealth but when he passes away, he will be the same like the rest of us. Nobody is greater than the other person. In the end we are all the same. And yet we think of these people as great figures.

-How lucky I am to exist. Essentially if another sperm hit the egg before mine did, I could have been a completely different person. Serious stuff.

-Once you are dead. You are dead. Sadly, you will be just a memory and within time you will be forgotten.

-Life is taken for granted. I can die tomorrow, next month, next year, who knows? What gives me a guaranteed long life?

-How in the end humans are the same as animals. We are all trying to survive. Even with luxuries in the end we all need the basic necessities.

-even the SMALLEST possible decision could have a lifechanging effect. Imagine 2 food shops next to each other and you can't decide which one to go in. You go into one, spot a cute girl, chat her up, go on a date, end up marrying her with kids and die together. That would never have happened if you went in store #2.

My head is pounding just thinking about this stuff. Maybe I'm crazy. Any of you people think about this stuff? Maybe I just inhaled too much coralife salt. Anything that you guys think about?

while some of that is just philosophical, maybe I can help ease your mind about planes.

Wings are designed with a curve to the top surface. As air passes over the wing at high speed, an area of negative pressure is produced towards the rear of the surface. This negative pressure creates "lift" which essentially pulls the wings upward overcoming the gravitational pull on the planes actual mass. The more powerful the propulsion, the smaller the wing surface that is required to generate the same amount of lift. This is why gliders have much larger and straighter wings while fighter planes have much smaller wing surface to body ratios. If you look at a car spoiler, the bulge is to the back of the surface (exactly opposite that of plane wings), creating drag that technically adds to the weight of the car increasing traction.

I totally disagree this one. I was in couple near miss car accidents that I helped the driver navigate out of it while in the deadman's seat. It took more than 1 extra second for the driver to think and or grasp the situtation in front of him/her even though warnings are given many seconds ahead. Last summer, I was travelling between Catskill and NYC frequently. I saw a lot of small deers in the mountain and in villages when we leave our job site at dawn time. I toldl my truck driver to take the center lane but he decided to use the slow lane for whatever reason I am not sure. I do not like to order people to do things so I kept my eyes extra keen on the surroundings during the trip. I constantly reminded him that there was a deer here and another one there. Then about half way thru, we had seen more than 5 dead deers already. I started to feel uncomfortable when I started to see big ones(like the size of a young bull) dead on the highway shoulder. I suggest him to take the center again but of no avail. Less than 5 mintues later, I saw a small deer jumped out of the grass and passed our truck three four feet in front of the truck!!! The driver screamed and uttered some foul words and he asked me "WHAT'S THAT?" I answered him that's a small deer THAT I HAVE BEEN WARNING BEFORE. He said, "no no it's not a deer." I said to myself, "wow, people don't even know what they encountered when sudden thing happens" and more importantly, he did not even grasp the blantantly clear danger with so many dead dears laying around ahead of the near miss.

Ya'll mean to tell me you've never stopped one day and just think real hard about death and existence and whatnot? You guys need to intake some more herbal substance. lol I kid I'm pretty sure everybody has thought about it once in their lives. I do all the time and in the end I just get myself more scared about how much we don't know

Wow. that guy was just being real ignorant imo. Good thing he didn't crash or anything. Well I'm not so sure about it like that. I think an extra second in reaction time.

Of course I thought about that..when I was HIGH. LOL I stopped smoking weed because I didn't want to think so much. Forget about mushrooms you will think about everything that has happened and everything that might/could happen and then you will want to die most likely. haha

Although I knew my wife from when I was 15, we didn't start dating for another three years. Now follow the chain of events:

  • Friday June 17, 1994- Normally a work day (just going into full time mode for the summer) but I took the day off.
  • Why take the day off? The NY Rangers won the Stanely Cup and that day was the ticker tape parade, myself and four buddies went.
  • At some point we all end up back at my house. I'm with my boys, plan is to go out to go to a local bar and watch the Knicks-Rockets Game 5. Just as we get ready to break out. OJ Simpson and the Famous White Bronco Chase Happens!!!
  • My boys and I are hooked, we sat in my parents' living room glued to the TV.
  • The chase is over, it's something like 11:00pm. My friends and I go outside to stretch out and who happens to walk by? My future wife and a few of her girlfriends.
  • My wife and I start talking and as they say, "the rest is history..."

Now what if the Rangers didn't win their only cup in 70 years that year?
What if the Knicks didn't make a finals run?
What if OJ just decided to put a bullet in his head after killing Nicole and Ron?

I can tell you for certain that if not for the OJ chase there is no way I would have been in my house on Friday night in June.

One of my fav shows on the Sci Channel is "How the universe works"

Last night was about galaxies and how they're created.

At the center of every galaxy is a super massive black hole. Talk about mind blowing! Just try and grasp the thought of what a black hole is. Or to try and conceptualize how much time a billion years is? Or how much space is covered in six million light years (the size of the largest galaxy discovered in the universe)?

To think that the average galaxy has 160 million stars and there are an enumerable amount of galaxies? How can there be only one star in that infinite number to have a planet that can support an advanced life form? We can not be alone.

WASHINGTON — Scientists have estimated the first cosmic census of planets in our galaxy and the numbers are astronomical: at least 50 billion planets in the Milky Way.
At least 500 million of those planets are in the not-too-hot, not-too-cold zone where life could exist. The numbers were extrapolated from the early results of NASA's planet-hunting Kepler telescope...

I remember this time so clearly, I had a summer cold, but did everything the same until the end of the chase. Then I went to sleep. But those events are, for some reason, forever etched in my memory. As well as "Matteau! Matteau! Matteau!!!"

" If you gaze long into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you."

Wow this is a cool thread. I ponder the little things all the time. I also partake in the herbal, but thats what keeps me from going absolutely insane from all the thinking. Im constantly trying to figure out the purpose of things and why Im at, where Im at, at this point in my life. Always thinking of," if I did this way would of it been different". One example is the way I got into the hobby. I lived in a small beach complex for abouty a year when my son was first born. Made several friends and one happened to own a FW tank. When it came time for me to move I stayed in touch. After 2 months my buddy had to move and asked me to store his tank. It sat in my garage, with fish in it, for about a year. In that time the water turned orange( from all the damn feeding) and evap'd about half of the total volume. The HOB filters weren't even running. I felt bad for the fish so I picked up a book. BAM!!! I was hooked like a crackhead!!!. I turned that tank around in about a month and then, within 6 months, I had 8 tanks setup in my house. 3 years after that I got into the salt thing and never looked back. Now, what if I never moved into that complex? I wouldnt have the passion I have for this hobby. This is the only hobby in my life I ever had a passion for. I was never big into hobbies. I want to thank my buddy for leaving his tank in my garage( even tho I have know idea where the hell he is!)

That's awesome. I'm pretty sure everybody has a story as to how they got into fishkeeping in a way where they didn't think they would ever keep fish.
