Well it wasn't that awesome. The guy was really interesting and I had a great time.
I love to talk to these old Vets. Unfortunately with all they did for us, they get almost nothing in return and no compensation. Our live is extreamly easy because of guys like him and the guys that did not make it home.
As we were eating I heard someone call, Hey Sarge (I had my army shirt on)
I said hello to the guy and he came over. He was an M.P. in Nam when I was there. He told me some stories I said I never saw an M.P there, and he said something about riding convoy on a road from Saigon, to Ben Hoa.
I told him I never saw a road there, then he said something about his room. I said I never saw a roof or wall there. Then he was saying something about a restaurant in Saigon. I told him I never saw a restaurant there. Then he mentioned something he used to do on Sundays. I told him, we didn't have Sundays there.
Then we all laughed. Army stories can go on forever, all wars are different and parts of all wars are different.
When I was in the Army, I thought everyone was doing what I was doing. You don't learn about what other people are doing until many years later.
Now with the internet and reporters right with the troops, we know instantly what most people are experiencing. I didn't even know what I was doing until 30 years later when I read about it on the net.
It's wierd. :Yikes:
