hey everyone i havent been around cause i have been riding.i just need a question answered.i have a chance to buy a beauty of a harley for a very reasonable amount of money the only problem is it has this florida certificate of destruction on it.i took a very good look at it with a mechanic and the only problem with it is it has a dented front fork which i can easily replace and a dented gas tank which is another easy fix.i took it for a ride and it rides amazing.is there anyway to get this bike registered in ny by simply fixing these problems.i wont buy it if the only way i could salvage it is to get a new frame thats way to much work.thanks everyone

as well ny will want to see reciepts for any part's that were replaced, if it has been fixed. it will need to go to be inspected and checked for serial number's and ect, the fork and dented tank totalled it ?

Well keep in mind that the cost of repair of the fork and any other pieces involved for structural integrity of the bike would be at risk. although minute... and you think well if it is only the fork... the fork, wheel, frame and anything else that it may have come into contact with during the accident.
But yes, you will need all receipts (if purchasing used parts... it must show vin #s and location of business with dmv #s) If purchasing new, you will need to keep all receipts.
Keep in mind that even with those, the inspectors may not pass a vehicle if they feel that the vehicle would not be safe.

i use to buy bike rom argo cycles in new hampshire when i had my custom shop and they were all salvage titles. what you need to do is buy new parts and have a reputable mechanic do the repairs and if in westchester i know they NYS use to inspect them in elmsford took several hours but then you get a clean NY title....

as for the fork and tank being damaged i would CHECK the neck for a crack that would be the first indication for the salvage title on only a dented tank and fork.... since those aren't enough for a bad title.....

remember the old saying " if it's a good deal some thing is wrong lol"

I don't think he means a "Clean" like a new title... but a repaired title. So the vehicle will basically be deemed roadworthy and can be issued a title so that it can be used again on the road.

Isn't making a "salvage title" clean, bordering on illegal action?
not if you take the right steps and is approved by NYS and there inspection process is tough.

what model , year
I bought a friends bike that was crashed the bike seemed ok but the frame was damaged when i compared it to my bike (same frame) measurements were off I knew this before purchasing the bike . I brought it to a place in Connecticut that checked and straightened the frame for about $600 on a laser machine. I have had many harleys even brand new ones that never were involved in an accident but never did a bike feel like this one as far as handling over 100 mph .
The vehicle will always have a history of being salvaged. A few years ago there were talks about not letting salvage vehicles from other states get registered in NY but I am not sure what happened with that.
