While in the airport a few months ago, I saw plans for collapsible bookcases in a woodworking mag. Like the moron I am, I didn't buy the issue.

I'm about to build some bookcases, and remembered the article. I remember the basic principles, and can design my own version, but I wanted to take a look at the article again. So I'm wondering if someone has the magazine I could read through again. Or, if you know what magazine it is, I'd gladly find it online and order a copy.

I've checked most of the free plan sites, and there's nothing that seems to be what I want. Any suggestions?
Thanks

B, I think I have plans for those in a magazine, or book, somewhere.

I won't be able to look for it for a couple of days though.

5/4 usually means the board is 1.25" or 1 1/4" thick rough. I don't know of other meaning.

Do you remember which magazine was it in? I order plenty of magazines but I don't get a chance to read all of them.

I think maybe fine woodworking. The cover caught my eye, so it's not one of the blip articles. Sometime around november.

i know 5/4 means 1 1/4"! I was looking for sanded/finished dimensions. Jhale hooked me up.

Next is the cad then the build!

By the way when u get 5/4 stock its usually rough if your ordering wood by those dimensions. I haven't seen a place that has finish grade boards that sells by those dimensions.

Your losing 1/8" or more depending how warped the board is once you run it through a planar and get the wood sized up. So your getting a 1 3/16-1/16 board when it says your getting 1 1/4".

wooot. i found the article. It's in 'family handyman'

who said home depot was useless. they still had the dec/jan issue on the shelf... (bottom shelf, way in the back) but I still found it.

The plans in it only use 3/4" ply and a bit of solid for trim.

My next question: when did plywood get so damn expensive? $74 a sheet for 3/4 Maple. wow. I need 5 sheets.

maybe those ikea shelves aren't so bad after all. . .

the price was for furniture grade from manhattan laminates.

I'm not going to build the shelves. Right now I don't want to sink the $1000 into them. Looks like the z$65 shelves from lowes are on the ticket.

74 a sheet for maple with hardwood veneer core is not bad.
though plywood prices have jumped a lot the past 5 years.

I know you got some shelves already, but next time check the prices at roberts plywood.

I get a bunch of stuff from them. the place is huge and they keep lots of cool stuff in stock.

What did you think it would have run you Brett? :fishhit:

Last time I bought some, maple 1/4" was around $40 or so. I didn't think 3/4 would be twice that. But after going to HD and Lowes, I'm finding that all lumber has gone up about 20% (for example 1x2's that were $1.80 are now $2.25.)

I'll build the shelves when i have time. There's still the office shelves to build. . .
