Im looking to purchace virus protection/removal software....
i had norten sec, hated it. Im running a trial vers of Panda software that took out any viruses that i had and for the first time in 8 months my comp is clean.

Now, i kno since Panda did such a good job i should prob go with them, but is there better?

AVG, in my opinion sucks, a mentor once said "...u get wat u pay for.." well AVG is free and that says it, i ran AVG and it didnt find any viruses....so ixne on the AVG-a

I'm Running Mcafee and it does a good job and grabbed stuff norton or any other program didn't. Better interface than norton and non-invasive. Just make sure you get the right bundle with them. Oh, also norton likes to tie down files and make them inactive while mcafee actually deletes them. I also really liked Symantec.

I haven't looked into new virus programs for a while, went with one i was happy with (Mcafee) but last time i checked about a year ago most of the virus programs out there take all the same information libraries that Mcafee and Norton have in their virus libraries and just change the user interface or way they scan the computer. So your only comparing other companies by the user interface, how invasive the programs are. You'll never get as large a virus library as the two main companies.

AVG works. I've used it for many years. But any anti-virus proggy won't keep your pc spotless anymore. You need some ad-ware removal stuff as well. Are you running something like ad-aware or spybot search and distroy? If you aren't, I'd look into both of them.

Also, when you first install any virus/spyware program, boot into safe mode and run it. Lots of bad programs can tell winblows 'i'm important, don't delete me'

If you scan in safe mode, you don't have to worry about them.

AVG or Avast, both free. Both virus databases updated daily. Stay away from the big name ones that suck up every bit of system resources. Those two combined with Spybot and Zonealarm free will keep your system fairly safe if you don't go surfing around porn or warez/crack sites :skull:
