So Saturday morning 4 of us woke up at 6am to make it down to WV on time to see the Formula D tournament. 2 of my friends work for Falken tires and we were all given pit passes and given free reign to wander among the Falken compound there. We were picked up at the track gates on a golf cart and taken all the way across the park through the crowd to the pit (where we were given access to enough NOS energy drink to give even a large horse a heart attack). From the trailer roof platforms we had an amazing view of most of the track and Falken managed to do very well during the days events. They started with some single car time attacks where they averaged 70-80mph (which is kind of slow since some tracks they can hit upwards of 90mph). Tires were smoked all day and fun was had by all. We were invited to do it again in Sept. when formula D comes to New Jersey!!!!!!!!!!

Here are some of the pics from the day I have a ton more and a bunch of videos too. I forgot to mess with some of the settings and some pics were a little blurry and had to be cropped to fit this site. The original pics are much better.

Here is the real reason we drove 6hrs each way. The unveiling of Falken's new Saturn V12 bi-turbo drift car.

Unfortunately it started a fight with a wall earlier on and was put back in the truck to think about what it had done. I think the driver suffered a concussion but was otherwise fine.

BF Goodrich Skyline with color shift paint ran pretty well all day.

Drift Viper is awesome but smoked so much on the drifts it filled the cabin and streamed out of all the windows making for amazing pics (none of which I got) and not so amazing driving.

Rhys Millen was there with his new Solstice drift car, which replaced his GTO I believe (why on earth would you trade down to a girls car......). Rhys did well all day and I have a pretty good video of him drifting through the hairpin at the end of the course from just behind the K-rail. Wanted to meet him but didn't get the chance, have to wait for Jersey now. For those who don't know Rhys is Steve Millen's brother. Steve is the one who started the Nissan tuning Co. of Stillen. They are from New Zealand and have taken part in pretty much any race you can think of in one way or another including Pike's Peak.

Charger drift car made some of the craziest smoke we saw all day aside from the viper. The charger won 1st place after all the tandem runs were done and drivers eliminated (I am pretty sure. That or he came in second but I am 99% sure he was first lol. We were busy back at the Falken pits talking to some of the drivers and crew while they packed up.)

Now this guy didn't compete all day because as far as we could tell he would have destroyed everyone. He is Japan's top drifter and showed up with HKS as an exhibition driver in a REAL Toyota Altezza (the lexus IS series from Japan). He did a few runs and went through the course back and forth 4 times creating so much smoke it looked foggy out. He was so good his tires never stopped spinning for more than a second and he never stopped moving it was insane. His runs were flawless and I wish I had access to the media tower so I could have filmed his entire run.

So much tire smoke it looked foggy.

They called this guy in the Altezza N.O.B. for "No One Better" for obvious reasons.

These are your tires on Drift.......any questions?

N.O.B.'s tire after 4 nonstop back and forth runs of the course. This is why tire companies are so into drifting lol. Will post more pics later I'm still shot from all that driving and lack of sleep.

NJ in Sept. All the guys will be there and it will probably be even bigger the crowd there was rather unresponsive to the commentators and there wasn't much excitement from them. NJ should be much better since it's in one of the major areas for interest in drifting.

Yes, the guys at Falken Invited us back for the NJ event. Should be much bigger and better than the Virginia run. Should also have more vendor booths in NJ and a much bigger turn out I would think. Also, is there a way to post short movies to the thread or does it have to be hosted elsewhere?
