I'm trying to repair a shower faucet that's leaking. I think the make is Gerber, becuase it's on the handle. I have a problem pulling out the stem. This is what i've done and need some opinion to proceed.
-Turn off water main, there are no shut off valves on the shower stall.
- remove handle.
- remove escussion plate
- Question: :headache: there is a chrome tube that's in the wall the is around the stem. Is this tube removable as i can't get the shower wrench to fit the nut in the tube. The tube diameter of the tube is too small. I look at the tube and it looks partially grouted and has some build up around it , should i chip way the grout and build up to remove this tube? or is there a tool that will specifically fit a gerber shower stem without me removing the tube?

Thank for any advice.
Peter

gerber shower body

handles come off

the chrome tube twists off (sometimes it it harder then usual to take off ,do to gourt mglue and or crap thta build in side )

if the shower body is install properly ,then youll need a stem socket to take out the stem

Pmui,

Ronen is a plumber and his rates are really good. Also, he is very tidy with his work and the work space. He did my sink and shower head and they both look great!

hi all,

I've removed the flange and tube with a little chisleing. I guess the former owner NEVER changed any part of the shower after it was installed. I have to remove the grout around the tubes to remove it.
- I've chenged out the entire stem assembly.
- next problem i ecounter was trying to remove a corroded seat, I've tried to remove it with a seat remover and it was slipping/stripped. The seat will need to be replaced, is there a way to get it out?

thanks,
Peter

THe gerber seats are square in shape on the inside ,use the seat remover and bang it in with a hammer or something to get a snug ft on the seat ,then turn ,yo9ull have to make sure you get a good tool ,some of the cheaper ones dont really work well

Ronen,

Thanks for the advise. Can you direct me where to get a good seat removal tool? The one i have is a hand me down.

thanks,
Peter

any plumbing supply has them ,or if you have a screw driver that will fit the seat opening that will work too :)

good luck

Ronen
