Dear friends at Manhattan Reefs.

First I want to express my gratitude.
Thanks to MR the hobby becomes a pleassure and we learn so much.

The second thing is a very disspleasing and uncomfortable matter.
I bought a couple of things from one of the MR members in and when I went to install them either one worked right. One of the object (a Calcium Reactor) was cracked and the other (an UV Unit) had a burned light bulb.

I've tried to contact this person through Private Messages and also calling him but he just dissappear.

I need advise as to what shoud I do.

you know what i would do is put that person on front street for knowing that this stuff wasnt what it was,or suck it up take your loss.i would want my money back for crappy items.jmo

Alfredo, again, I'm sorry to hear of your problems.
Dealing with people on an forum like this is at your own risk.
As was brought up in another thread, there has been an influx of members here who have just been trying to dump unwanted equipment or make money off of the site. Mostly just before the swap.
There are ways to try to protect yourself, but they are not always safe:
Reefer Ratings: Reefer ratings are questionable at best. I too am guilty of giving a person a positive reefer rating that left me standing in front of FT for 2 hours waiting for him to pick up a product he wanted to buy from me. He was a nice guy and apologized to high hell and asked me to leave a positive rating. I did. I'm sorry for that. He is well known for being unreliable.
Buy from vendors: I like our vendors. I have used them in the past and will continue to use them if I need it. Most of them are helpful, but IMO, more than half of them know sh1t about reefing and have no business selling here anyway. Some have also bought products on the FS/FT forum and then turned around and sold them to members at a higher price.
Buy from members: I like this, but lately, there has been a trend of members selling things that were absolute failures on their systems and they try to push it as a great piece of equipment. What I like to call "dumping off". Me... I had a few pieces of equipment that I refused to sell to MR members because I personally felt that both pieces of equipment were such POS's that I couldn't sell them in good faith. I also have another thing that I would love to sell, but I have been honest with the fact that it is a good piece of equipment, but is not for everyone's set up. I, as the seller have passed on 6 opportunities to sell, since I did not feel it was good for the buyers set ups.
My favorite thing about this site is that it is a close group, but we have fallen away from that. Be careful what you buy is all I can say.

i want to be clear on this...the reactor was not cracked before it left my home. the bulb was brand new when it left here...as a matter of fact i could have given him the bulb that was in the old unit..i didnt and he knows that. i also helped him out with fittings ect...i am certainly not going to stand by and let this guy bad mouth me when he knows i did the right thing by him. i mean ask him the deal i gave him on the calcium reactor. by the way i dont sell people junk...id throw junk out before id sell it to someone...anyone that knows me knows its not about the money and never will be.

I'm glad you finally came back to life.

First thing. I'm a religiouss person and would never lie.
The light you gave me was burned. All I did was to install it and it never worked.
The calcium reactor leaked from the moment it was installed but I let it go and didn't make any claims to you.
Why havent you try to get back to me to discuss this. I think that's not a good thing to do.
IF I were trying to bad mouth you I would have said your name, but you did it all by yourself..
If you felt you where right then a phone call or answer to my messages would have been enough, but you just dissappear.
You're right is not about money.
Loosing $300.00 is not going to make me any poorer but loosing a possible friend sure will.

littlefish and loveitsoft i have a bad feedback myself and i felt like im doing a right thing., so i know how it feels. i had a scandal on the board and it took away alot from me. and the only thing i did right was - close the bull$HIT and stand above

John is a very nice guy and very helpful.
I did tried to PM him and even called on several ocations but never did he tried to resolve this in a positive way.
I never asked for my money back either because to me a frienship has more value than money and the least thing I want (in a World that's so messed up, full of wars and violence) is to contribute to negative things.

I noticed that reefer rating doesnt mean anything. I left a negative feedback to one member (not going to mention who that is) And then i notice that the negative feedback was taking off. He is not a mod so i dont know how he got it taken off? Mods do you have any idea? I am sorry to hear what happened to you but my advice is dont depend on the feedback it doesnt seem to mean a lot since people take off negative feedbacks anyways if you leave them. So if i were you i would post the person who sold you the defected items and make everyone aware of the person. We try to make it as honest as possible here but there are always those "scammers" sitting behind the screen trying to make money off dead corals or defected items. LIke I said sorry to hear that again. Hope the best for you.
