I saw something on discovery about a squid of that type, and an expidition trying to find a live specimen. Really cool stuff, just makes you realize how big the ocean is since huge creatures like that hide easily in it.

There are amazing pix on line regarding this - it was caught while eating a fish that was on a line! It was not even a mature specimin!

The saddest thing is that considering the waters it inhabits, it never should have been caught - they only took it out of the water b/c it was already going to die -

by the time they realized they had it at all, it was barely alive any more. They only took it because it was going to die.

Definitely awesome to see. I watched that special on TV too. I agree that it makes you realize that the ocean is a completely new place over and over. Seems like my tank has something new popping up every few days. I can only imagine what the ocean is hiding in the depths.
