Say Hello to My Little Friend

I got this little guy when I was in Florida on Holiday. It is a Florida Bark Scorpio[SIZE=-1]n (Centruroides gracilis)[/SIZE]. I actually have 21 of them!

This guy grabbed a cricket within a couple of hours after being introduced to his new home. To give you an idea of size, that is a pinhead (cricket).

The cricket is about 1/4 inch. I already took the plane back! 21 scorpions went through the x-ray machine.

These scorpions only get about 4-5 inches. They will do great in captivity. Who knows, maybe they will reproduce (these are partciluarly known to do so in captivity) and sell them cheap!

These guys are very active at night. I have watched them at night for the past few nights with a red light (actually the picture above was taken at night). Gives me something to do when the reef lights go out without adding $$ to the electric bill.

eh... dont know if I could sleep well with them in my house either lol. still, 21 sounds like a LOT. good thing they were in your carry on, i've heard stories of peoples luggage ending up behind pet stores lol

They are housed together. This species has not shown cannibalistic behavior in labs. There have been experts who have kept 20 of them with no problem. We'll see though....

wait, hold on, you can take 21 scorpions through security now???

I think I would be more scared of a F@#$ing scorpion on a plane than a bomb. jons funny reference is not so funny any more

I can't tell the difference in sex. I am going to read up on it. My initial guess is probably by size. I'll let you know if I figure it out.

i was watching animal planet the other day and saw if you put a black light on scorpions @ night they glow in the dark. Mght want to give it try. looked pretty cool.

It works for all scorpions. It is weird but pretty cool. Somewhere along the line I read that keeping the scorpion under the black light too long could harm them. Not sure why though....
