Depending on how big the hole is fist size or smaller u can stuff it with news paper and plaster ...but if its bigger u might have to cut a square were the hole is install small piece of dry wall and tape over it a pic would help ..gl
Small hole - just spackling compound. Larger hole - like the lowes video suggests you can add tape to hold the spackling compound while it's drying. If it's a really large wall - replace a broken piece of dry wall I would say.
for a big hole, cut a piece of furring strip or similer 4" bigger than hole. put it inside of hole and screw in place through sheet rock. now cut a piece of sheet rock the size of hole and screw it to furring strip. tape and spackle. for a 6" hole your spackle should over lap about 8" all around so it blends in.
