i have a question about paypal. I'm sure a lot of us has delt with the market place where right fully so, sellers require pp and ask to send as a gift to avoid fees. i think is like sending cash. if you have a problem or you don't receive the item, can you contest it with pp.
i never had a problem but was wondering.

Yes i think you can. There was a vendor here to accepted pp payments as gifts from a member who later had all the payments reversed. Dont know what was the outcome but know that the vendor is no longer in business. Not sure if that was the reason but know he was out a nice sum.

But im sure its a case by case and pp has to investigate....

From my experience paypal cant do nothing about money being sent as gifts. The only person that can reverse it is the seller.

you can dispute it if t as gift. Just a long process of getting your money back. Just gotta make sure you save the full conversation between you and the person who is buying/selling to whom ever.

Nope pp will not cover you for money sent via gift I always ask for buyer to cover fees usually the option would comeup before you click the send button. I have recieved money via gifts before also but that's mostly with people that I have a good repore with already or have heard my credibility on the boards is top notch

nope

if you send someone money as friends / Family aka Gift you lose your money and that is the end of it. Paypal does not make any money from this option therefore it is the users responsibility to ensure the gift is really a gift and to the correct person.

A merchant proven to be cheating paypal out of their fees by using a personal paypal account as oppose to a commercial paypal account will have his account frozen/closed, dont know about actions paypal would take against that merchant.

I have sent Gotham Aquatics paypal payments as gifts for dry goods but he has been in business for a whileeeee.

I see the request a lot from members selling livestock or equipment and in my opinion sellers are asking for gift payments not solely to avoid the fees but to avoid paypal disputes all together.

Furthermore, paypal does not cover the buyer for live goods. If you buy "the must have" $900 zoa pack and you end up with nuclear green palys, paypal will not help you once you tell them it's live goods. If your one of a kind superbatmanlicious chalice arrives dead you have just lost $1200.00 for that one "eye" you purchased.

Dont use paypal for livestock worth more than you are willing to lose, buy from a website with a live guarantee and pay with a credit card, if anything happens you dispute it with your credit card and you will get your money back.

Now, if you are ever buying used equipment from anyone, pay with paypal and not as a gift, if you get taken and the seller wont take the item back, just dispute it with paypal.

Dry goods yes
livestock no
gift NEVER for either

Yes, that's right. I usually pay the PP fees if I am dealing with someone the first time. I don't buy big $ items anyway so the fee is usually a couple of bucks. I'd gladly pay that for some peace of mind.

I never understood why buyers are asked or expected to pay the fees. People that ask for it would be up in arms if they went shopping at the mall and the store asked for merchant fees for their credit card use. Not to mention, it's against Terms of Service.

Yea, some stations, mostly the smaller named ones do charge a surcharge for CC usage. That's a tough business with markup of only 5-15 cents/gallon sold. However, MC/VISA/Amex will charge them 3-4% of the TOTAL sale. As the price of gas increased and the markup didn't, gas stations would eventually have to pay credit companies to fill your tank.

The PayPal fees are a small percentage of the total fee. I simply add it in when purchasing with PayPal. I like the convenience of using PayPal, so the fee doesn't bother me.
