Hey folks,

My building is looking into getting at least two cameras 1) parking lot 2) front side walk/front entrance outdoors.

No one in the building is uber techy.

I would prefer something that is easy to set up, and can see in the dark at least within 20+ ft (so we can see all of the cars).

If it can pan up and down (right to left actually) that would also be great.

If you have any ideas on a good one that has easy data storage options let me know!

We just want it for added security.

People have been stealing our garbage cans, someone stole my bike (which was secured), and once a car was broken into.

I do this for a living and it all depends on what you want to spend. DVR storage can vary greatly and also depends on what cameras you add.
There is a good store on Canal st. that may be a good place to start. I would stay away from the Costco package as these cameras are very low definition and do not last.
Also the cameras that pan, tilt and zoom (PTZ camera) are very expensive even for a entry level unit. I would suggest well placed bullet or dome cameras.

If your budget is decent then spend a few thousand one a dvr system.

If not make sure the cameras can at least save video on itself.

Try signage as a quick deterrent obviously when the cameras are up and keep the areas well lit.

Thanks for all the replies so far folks.

People on the board are pretty cheap. It took some convincing just to get them on board with considering buying one even though some of their things were broken into/they have been complaining about stolen cans etc.

I would prefer one that could be asily accessed by anyone in the building, whenever they want. I would prefer not having monthly storage fees, unless they were low and easily accessible.
