My other computer, which is fairly new and runs Windows 7 has a problem. It will not allow me to go on any web sites although it says it is online.
It just says, "can not display this page. I can get it working again if I restore the computer to an earlier time as I have done 3 times but it only works for a day. It seems that Windows keeps downloading a critical update and when they do that, it will no longer allow me to access anything.
But when I restore the computer to a time before that update, it works fine.
Any ideas?

OK. I did that thing on YouTube but it says there is nothing wrong. I still can't get online and now it won't let me restore it to an earlier time than yesterday so I can't go online to check for spyware. I have it in safemode. How do I get it out of safe mode? I started it a few times but now it starte in safe mode.
Any other ideas?

Try going to the manufactures website first and download the drivers for your laptops wireless adapter, sounds like the Microsoft update is changing the driver to a non compatible version. Once the Microsoft update is done run the manufacture update, odds are that should fix it.

I did all those things twice including everything else on that You Tube. Everything is great, except it won't me see any site. No matter what I try to see, including this forum, on that computer, I just get, "Can't view that page"
The only thing I didn't do was re load windows.

Joe, I can't go online to download anything. That machine is also not a laptop and it is not running wireless. I know the router works because this computer that I am on is running wirelessly from the same router.

Install Google Chrome. It'll open after it installs, and try to open websites with it.

https://www.google.com/intl/en/chrome/browser/

Edit: Nevermind, just saw you can't download anything on that PC. Do you have a USB thumbdrive or hard drive, copy Chrome installer onto that media and install from PC that you're having trouble with.

Edit 2: Nevermind again. Chrome won't do you any good with internet not working on that PC. Sorry, brain is wonky today.

Down by the clock do you see what looks like a computer monitor? If you do does it have a yellow exclamation point? If you don't see it look for a triangle click that and see if you see it then. If you do not see it at all then you have a problem with your network driver. You can go to your working computer download the driver to a USB key and install it that way on the computer that doesn't work. If you do see it with a exclamation point right click it and choose trouble shoot network connection. If you get a error let me know what it says. If you see it with a exclamation you cloud possibly have a virus / malware. If none of this makes sense what so ever let me know and I'll try to help you out on the phone or remotely.

I think I fixed it. Duromega, I deleted another virus protection but what I think it was is that I also deleted a version of Skype. I was noticing that when I would turn off the computer, Skype would stay on and I would have to force it to close. I think I had 2 versions of Skype and one would load up when the computer started.
Thanks for all the help guys. I figured it would be something simple. But at least I ran all the computer fixes so many times. Now I hope it runs for more than a day.

Paul,

1)I think you said you can get online now with Chrome, so there is no need to check whether your machine is connected to the internet. If NOT, yell, we will guide you thru using more low level methods.
2)You mentioned "short cuts" not working, do you mean ALL shortcuts to ANYthing of just short cuts to the internet not working?
3)If the answer to 2) is ALL, you most likely have a file system error, meaning, you need to fix the file system by using, say, Chkdsk or other tools which some of us can guide you out.
4)If it is determined that the file system is erroneous, then it likely you had an improper shutdown or improper update that crashed or installed incompatible files in your computer. Malwares frequently did the same too.
5)If the answer to 2) is "Only internet shortcuts" not working, then most likely it's outdated antivirus software or virus/malwares themselves causing the issue.
