I'm not a parent and don't ever plan to be but as a guy who's done a lot in my life -4 years in the Army, 11 years in the FDNY, and had more than my fair share of life experience, you should take comfort in that you are helping him secure a good life for himself. Every parent I've EVER known says they want their kids to have a better life than they had, well you're helping him achieve that.

The experience I can speak of is it will make holidays that much better because hell get to come home and those are great days, they were for me the times I flew home on leave during my service or when my mom came to see me at my base.

Good luck feeling better and get Skype.

You are absolutely right, JimmyR1rider!! It is just that day when he comes back seems so far away! thanks, we have skype, facetime and texting.

You and he will be good to go. When I was away in the service there really was no technology available like there is now to stay in touch and the stuff that was we couldn't afford on post. Him going away to school will probably strengthen your bond because both you and him will realize how much you cherish the everyday stuff you do together when its no longer everyday stuff you do together lol.

Just think about him after graduation, getting a good job and the being able to afford a home for you to visit HIM and the family he eventually will have with someone special :)

Glad to hear you have every type of communication available to be able to contact him whenever you want(or whenever he's not out partying with his buds he makes there lol). My saying about my time in the Army is I did 4 years and I remember 4 months of it. Lmao

Also congratulations on him being accepted into a school.

My daughter did four years of college and then two years of grad school in Pennsylvania and my son is finishing up his senior year at Albany. You always miss them but knowing that they are growing up and getting a good education so that they can have a good life makes it all worthwhile. Call, text, Skype and visit (occasionally and call first) - all of these help you get over missing them so much.

My daughter is turning 3 and everyday she becomes more & more independent. Her new favorite words are "no daddy I do it".. I don't look forward to the day she's off to college. The wife and I had a hard time with her first day of pre-school. So I definitely feel for ya. I guess all you can do is take comfort in knowing he'll be alright without you. That is the goal after all clean their face, bandage their scrapes and then hope you prepared them enough to go out into the world. I think only time can help get over this kind of stuff... Then again with all the extra space, it may be time for a tank upgrade lol...
Good luck with everything.

my kids are little and college is a ways off. i remember when i was away at school, My parents asked me to call every sunday. they knew i would be calling and would be home for the call. this worked out well. Skype didnt exist and neither did texting
i def. agree wtih the post above, call before you "stop"in. your kid misses you too, but has an entire new world in front of him at his fingertips. the cool thing is knowing you got him to this point and everything you have taught him will get him through. good luck!
