Rotten egg smell

Came home to awful odor in my house today: of course wife blames the tank but occassionally we get this odor when we use washing machine. Any ideas?

Is it an HE(High Efficiency) washer? If so it could need to be drained. They're supposed to be drained at least once a month. Mine does the samething sometimes when I forget to drain it.

My Samsung has a panel on the lower front of the washing machine. Pull tube out and drain into a container/bucket. Usually there's a filter in there that traps hair/gunk... If you wash filter socks in that machine, DEFINITELY clean it frequently.

Yes there should be a panel at the bottom. Water will flow from tube until it stops. Then you should be able to unscrew the filter. As stated above if you've never done it then prepare yourself for an ungodly stench!

Something with a very low height. It will only drain from tube if held at lowest point. I use an empty bottle and lay it down slightly. To stop draining lift the tube up. It's actually pretty easy. Just smells bad.

Just did it t mine. Had no idea it had to be done. My wife did it so its not that hard LOL no smell though? I wanted it to,its kinda like being stuck in traffic and there is no accident to look at at the end LOL

i have a front loader 9yrs, never knew about a drain an no oder, i'm going to ck it tomorrow. and my daughter washed horse blankets for the first 2yrs in it.

Not sure if it would be an HE type washer. I could be wrong but I don't know if they've been around that long. In which case it probably doesn't need to be drained.

yes,it is an HE. i looked in the manual, doesn't say anything about draining. i would have to unbolt bottom cover to look. if it's not broken don't fix it.

Yea, mine not visible without taking off, I'm thinking could be something else as I didn't do any laundry yesterday.... Trap?
I also been having an issue when I turn the hose on it makes loud vibrating noise.... Owning a home is a pia sometimes

Any drains in the floor or any other drains u don't use like a sink or something else. Sounds like sewer gas from a drain trap that might have dried from non use

I have Samsung front loader HE washer too. I've drained mine and honestly, I've never smelled anything when I do it. Guess I wouldn't want to smell your socks!! lol

Filter socks, Russ...Filters socks. :irked: :lol2:

That's why I went the way of just running filter floss and throwing it out every week. I don't walk around smelling like skimmer juice anymore! Woohoo!

Hmm... Guess only some models require draining?... I should've shopped around more. As for the smell.. Maybe I should take it easy at the gym... Just kidding, I don't go the gym.

From what I've read, all front loaders have a debris filter but not all makes and/or models are user accessible.
