My cousin was there 3 years ago for part of his honeymoon. He said it gets unbearably hot during the day and your forced to do things either early morning or in the evening for outside activities. He said bring a lot of cash. This isn't your run of the mill vacation spot on a medium budget.

Atlantis in Bahamas was meh, the area it is in unless you are in the resort is a bit crummy.

Go see the big tank in the Mall. Maybe do a little skiing? The place is a bit over the top.

Thanks for all your responses. I made it there and back in one piece and I had a great time! Here are a few pics of the trips...

Since Dubai is an almost dry country, we loaded up at the Duty Free:

I came over for a friend's wedding and they have a very interesting Indian tradition. The women on the groom's side all compete in household duties for a prize (grounding grain in this instance). Cue the feminists.

Epic meal at an amazing restaurant--- Special Ostadi

Spent a night in the desert. Hookah and Johnny Blue...

...accompanied by belly dancers.

Burj Al Arab, the 7-star hotel at sunset.

The grand mosque in Abu Dhabi... it's massive (that's me in the blue shirt).

Was short on gold so stopped by the ATM...

I'll leave you with my favorite picture from the trip. I love the silhouettes of the people in the distance.

Matt, I've been to Asia. But Dubai was definitely the one most out of my comfort zone.

Forgot to mention--- we had an 8hr layover in Amsterdam on the flight home.
