I am actually researching this right now. Seems like people like Dahua. I will let you know more as the night goes on.

Edit: Why don't you just talk to her. All those cameras just to catch her on the phone seems a bit drastic. I can certainly understand wanting cameras so keep an eye on things. However I think your childs word is enough. Just let it be known that you are concerned and not paying her to be on the phone all the time but to be responsible and watch your kid.

I don't think you can set up cameras without first telling the babysitter..I've heard that somewhere..not sure how true it is..

Costco does have some nice setups..even BJ's.

u can kill 2 birds with one stone, if u pick up that foscam for the fish tank, u can rotate it to "spy" on the nanny. straight to your phone!

but in all seriousness, i wouldnt go on just a child's word. it can escalate to a larger confrontation quickly. i would observe her a few more times or maybe pop home "unexpectedly" and see if u can catch her in the act.

As a Mom...I'd trust your son...sounds like her behavior could put him in potential danger...I'd confront her asap...if she doesn't like it...there's a million more capable child care providers where she came from. Not worth the wait/risk...imho. I also recommend giving him his own cell phone...that way if a sitter steps out of line...your son has a direct line of contact with you. Let's just say I had a sitter issue once. My daughter has had her own cell phone since.

i know he didn't mentioned it but i believe jarrett's son is only 2 or 3 yrs old. don't know if his own phone is a good idea at that age.

I think the age of the child really matters. I have 2 small children and while I believe them what they are saying might not be what it seems to be.

That being said putting up a camera system is not a bad idea. I for one am going to out in a system at my home.

I was looking at a Samsung system. Remember the dvr is really not the most important thing. You need good cameras with good recording.

Don't look at this system as a camera system to spy on the babysitter. Look at it as security.

You want a system that can record at a decent frame rate for multiple cameras at the same time. The lower end dvrs can only record at a certain speed but share that speed between the cameras. So for instance if the system says that it can record at 32fps and you have 8 cameras then you get 4fps on each camera. Which is not bad.

But try to get high resolution cameras where they are important like at your front/great door.

Make the investment for a decent system. And make sure that the cameras are installed properly. You don't want cameras on the exterior to be high and looking down. The top of someones head is useless.

Also think about a camera at the driveway if there is one to catch a license plate.

Cameras in the house can be the cheaper kind since you only need to see the basic picture and not fine details.

And putting video cameras us violates nothing but you are not supposed to record any sound. That is a violation of a wiretap law. You can only record sound that you would normally hear with your own ears.

So in the end I say go for a system. Of you have a doubt about the babysitter than ask or try to get more detail from the child. There are so many questions to ask. Like where is the babysitter when allegedly on the phone. Is the babysitter ignoring the child. Is the babysitter not properly taking care of the child?
